Do you take charge in social situations? Do people naturally tend to follow your example and turn to you for direction or advice? You may be suited for a management position. There are a few questions to ask yourself to see if you would be a good fit for a management position.
Could you work towards the greater good of the company you work for?
A successful manager has the company in mind when making decisions. You must look at it as; if the company is successful, you will be more successful. Even if you are successful but the company fails, then your success will come to an end.
Do you need to improve your leadership skills?
How would you handle a difficult employee? Would you be able to lead by example and earn the respect of your employees rather than demand it through fear based tactics? A good leader works with their employees and earns their respect. If a leader comes in with scare tactics and tries to bully their way to the top they are rarely successful. No one wants to work for someone who is mean spirited and scary.
Are you good at time management?
Do you find yourself working last minute or staying up late cramming? Do you make a plan and follow it to finish difficult and long assignments? When a leader is not good at managing time this may put unnecessary stress on employees. Another aspect of time management is assigning the right jobs to the right people. Don't assign a task to someone in their area of weakness.
How would you motivate team members?
There are many motivational techniques to use. How adaptable are you? When working with many people, they won't all respond to the same technique. Being able to motivate employees is an important characteristic of a strong manager.
